About this tool

Split PDF files to break a single document into multiple PDFs by page range. Great for extracting a specific chapter, separating chapters of a long document, or pulling out individual sections to share without exposing the rest. Runs in your browser with no upload, so even sensitive documents stay private.

When to use it

  • Extracting a single section or chapter from a long PDF to share separately
  • Separating a multi-document scan that came as one combined PDF
  • Producing a redacted excerpt by extracting only the public-facing pages
  • Breaking up an annual report into individual sections for distribution
  • Splitting a textbook or manual into per-chapter files for easier navigation

What to expect

Specify ranges like `1-5,10,15-20` to extract pages 1 through 5, page 10, and pages 15 through 20 as separate output PDFs. Page numbering follows the PDF's actual page order, not the printed page numbers (which can differ in books or reports with front matter).

Frequently asked questions

How do I specify which pages to keep?

Enter a range like `1-3,5,7-9` to keep pages 1 through 3, page 5, and pages 7 through 9. Each comma-separated section becomes a separate output PDF.

Are the extracted pages full quality?

Yes. Splitting copies the original page content unchanged — no recompression or downsampling. Output quality matches the source exactly.

What happens to bookmarks and metadata?

Document metadata (title, author) is preserved in each output PDF. Bookmarks pointing to extracted pages stay; bookmarks pointing to pages not in the extraction are dropped to avoid broken links.
