About this tool

Convert a single image between formats — JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, HEIC, and more. Useful when a service rejects your image's format, when you need to swap to a smaller modern format like WebP, or when you've got a HEIC photo from an iPhone that won't open everywhere. Runs in your browser; the image never uploads.

When to use it

  • Converting a HEIC iPhone photo to JPG for compatibility
  • Swapping a PNG to WebP to shrink a website asset
  • Producing a JPG version of a TIFF or BMP for web or email use
  • Converting GIFs to PNG to escape the 256-colour limit
  • Producing an AVIF version of a JPG for state-of-the-art compression

What to expect

Lossy formats (JPG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC) re-encode and may add a generational quality cost — invisible at high quality settings. Lossless formats (PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF) preserve every pixel. Going from a transparent format to JPG fills the transparent areas with white.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose quality converting between formats?

Going to a lossless format (PNG): no loss. Going to a lossy format (JPG, WebP, AVIF) at high quality: imperceptible loss. Going from one lossy format to another: a small generational cost, usually invisible at high quality.

What happens to transparency?

Lossless formats with alpha (PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF) preserve transparency. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent regions become solid white. Pick the target format with this in mind.

Does HEIC really work in the browser?

Yes — we use a browser-side HEIC decoder so iPhone photos can convert without leaving your device. It's slower than native formats, but works on any modern browser.
